The Latest on Glo

    Aug 30, 2010 12:43

    Greetings!

Again, please excuse the e-blast, as it is the easiest way to communicate general news to all those Gloria loved and was involved with in some way.  Again, also, if you see anyone missing from this list, please forward information to them.

I wanted to let you know that Glo has moved to a ‘care home’ in Concord.  This is a big step for her, as it means more independence in her living situation.  She has 24/7 care, meals, and people to help her with the things she can’t yet do.  But, she’s out of the convalescent center!  She is progressing nicely, but slower than before, with the verbal skills coming back slowly.  That is not to say that she can’t speak her mind when she needs to!  Prayers and good thoughts are still needed, though, and will be for some time.

    Her new digs are at:
        1778 Cantrell Ct.
        Concord, CA 94521-2335
(I don’t have a phone number for her yet.)

The care home is just off of Concord Blvd, and about a block from Kirker Pass.  So, it’s about the same amount of time to get to her new home as it was to get to the convalescent center — just in the other direction on Concord Blvd.  If you take Bailey to get there, it’s a left hand turn on Concord Blvd, and if you take Kirker, it’s a right.

She LOVES cards and chocolate, and can have visitors for a short time.  When she gets tired, she says, “You go now,” so don’t take it personally if she says it to you — she says to to everyone!  It just means she’s tired.

We’re getting our Glo back, slowly but surely.  Thank you for all the prayers and good thoughts.  And on her behalf, thank you for all the cards and flowers.  She is overwhelmed by the love this community has shown to her.

Again, thank you all for the love you have shown to her throughout this ordeal.  She loves and appreciates you all.

    Good Morning!

Good news about Gloria.  She has a bladder infection (probably from the catheter) and will be back at Stonebrook Convalescent Home today.  She probably won’t be up for visitors today, but will be tomorrow.  She may have also had a little stroke, but nothing major.

She’s a fighter, and that is showing itself in this battle.  She will be continuing rehab there (at Stonebrook), and we expect her to progress further.

So . . . Good news for all concerned.

    Thanks for your prayers.

    Greetings, everyone.

I wanted to let everyone know that Gloria is not at Stonebrook Convalescent Home at this time. She suffered a little set-back tonight, and is in Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek. We’re fairly sure that she won’t be there long, and that they will once again transfer her to a rehab center, but we don’t know when or where that will be.

This would not be the best time for visitors, as she is exhausted from tonight’s events, but I will let you know when she can see people again.

I’d like to ask, once again, for good thoughts and prayers. It appears that she has had another stroke — a minor one, but that hasn’t been confirmed by the docs yet. She is definitely a fighter, and that showed itself even tonight when I was able to visit with her for a brief time.

On her behalf, I’d like to thank you all for the flowers, cards and good thoughts. She appreciates each and every one, and is delighted when she gets even a card.

I’ll let you know when we have another update — which I hope will be soon.

Feel free to call — I have cleared out my voicemail(!) -- and I will return your calls in a more prompt manner than last time!

P.S. We think we have found a home for Sport, so he will be basking in an air-conditioned home with people who love him. This may be temporary, and it may be permanent — we just don’t know at this time. But for now, he will be a happy little dog with companionship that I was not able to give him.

    Greetings, Everyone!

Pardon the email blast, but I wanted to update everyone on Glo’s condition, and this seemed the best way. I will be responding to individual emails, and I will catch up on the phone calls, but this seemed the best way for now.

Glo is improving dramatically, as of last night. In fact, as you know, they keep stroke patients only a few days in the hospital, and then move them to rehab right away, if all seems to be going in the right direction. That is precisely what they have done with Glo. Because she was able to start swallowing, and eating soft food (on her own, with both hands!), she has been transferred to:

            Stonebrook Convalescent Center
            4367 Concord Blvd.
            Concord, CA
            925-689-7457

I don’t know her room number, as I haven’t been to see her (or Sport) yet today. But she is able to receive visitors for a short time, and she is beginning to get feisty! She is far from being ‘whole’ again, but is making remarkable progress. She should be there for some time, based on her progress.

Your thoughts and prayers have meant so much to us — to her, to her family, and to me personally. I know she misses being active (already!), and she misses each and every one of you.

Again, if I have left anyone out of this email, please send this message on to people you think should know.

And again, thank you for all your good thoughts and prayers — keep them up. She’s not out of the woods yet, but she is a fighter, and fighting is what she is doing now. She’s ‘our Glo’ and is proving her strength and fortitude as I write this.

    Regards,
    Julie Nelson
